Pattern: Simplicity 3504 Tunic Set

My kids go back to school on Monday and i was determined that i would get my daughter at least one set done by then. I was really thrilled at how quickly this top went together and really liked the outcome.

This pattern offers several different sleeve variations and 2 front styles and also a collar option.

This set is for my 17 yr, old daughter. She is a special needs child with developmental delays therefore she is not self dressing. At school they prefer that the kids wear easily accessible clothing so i went with the easiest pants i know…no side seam full elastic waistband. I used my ruffler foot to add ruffles to the hem of the pants. i drafted her one pair of pants in PMCP and have marked off on that pattern for shorts and capri’s so whenever i need bottoms for her i can pull one pattern.

Since she is older in age, i decided plain with a ruffle was plenty to try and keep it age appropriate. no appliques etc.

This tunic pattern was a perfect choice for her, as it is really cute and trendy, but full cover-up in the front. This fabric was/is a custom boutique favorite. it’s called Andalucia by Patti Young. I chose the yoke front, with the flared sleeve option since i had 2 prints from the same line i thought it would look great together and i was happy with the results.

as decorative choices i added bias trim around the neckline and a draw string type waist. I made the belt for the drawstring, just a tad bit too short, i will know better next time. But all and all i felt it turned out great! oh and next time i will not put that seam down the middle back. i can tell that it’s there to replace a darts as it add contour, but in my daughters case we really don’t need that, so i woud much rather not see that seam there.

I will be making this top again, maybe a few times for my DD, and at least once for myself.

I choose pattern size 4 for my dauther, she is normally a 10/12 bottoms and a 14/16 top. She’s not the type to play dress up, so if time allows when i put this set on her to wear to school i can get a few photos of her actually wearing the set.

Well i’m off, i started this set saturday, finished it saturday night, then proceeded to start this post, well have way through i decided that i had had enough for one day, so this has turned out to be a 2 day post!! lol i have 2 more pairs of these shorts already half way done, i just need to start and complete tops to match..if i get one more done today then it has been a happy day!!!

Have a great Sunday everyone!!
