My goodness it has been such a long while since I posted! and there is no way i can make up for lost time and post everything that i have been doing! I wish I was just sitting still, but that didn’t happen, lol
Once I was finished with my prom dress, and before I felt overwhelmed with "things", I made these to wear to work…
I already had one and had received so many compliments that i decided a few more couldn’t hurt! they are so very simple to make that I made all of these in one day!! they turned out fabulous!!
Since it’s getting warm, it’s officially summer now! and I do actually like to go outside, I have been hooked on quick dinners and things i can cook on the grill, myself, no hubby!! so we have been having a variety of…wait for it,
wait for it….
you guessed it Shish kabobs!!! all different types of meat and veggies! my kids absolutely love them and they are quick and easy since i keep a stash of cut vegetables and i can chop my meats ahead of time and freeze them or whatever. we mix shrimp in as often as we can!
I finished up my last custom orders, the ones I was able to complete in a timely manner! issued refunds to those who i couldn’t and went back to my original order for one of my group mates! so they are all done, I just have to mail her box out tomorrow on my way to work! I will not be doing any custom orders for a minute or two. I just don’t really want to meet the deadlines for a while. I want to sew as I can and get back on track with my ASG & GingerSnaps (Wild Ginger) meetings. I was doing so well with reading, learning and experimenting with patterns and i honestly miss it!
So speaking of Wild Ginger, I made both these skirts from basic style options. I am constantly trying to learn how to manipulate the styles available, that it dawned on me that i had never really made up the basic pieces from the different modules. there is so much you can do without even going into PE that turns out really cute and not overly complicated in design and detail!!
These is a plain darted skirt. It will become part of a suit, when I get around to doing a jacket which I know I will eventually. I also want to do a pair of slacks of this fabric as well. It is a stretch poplin, which I had become vary fond of at the beginning of spring and ordered a bunch of it for the store in a variety of prints and patterns.
I see now that I have to work on lining up my darts or something the pinstripes look a little crazy! lol
This little red number is also stretch, but it’s sateen and i just love sateen. I wish i could buy it up in every color available!
This is a drop waist pencil skirt. I drop the waist on almost all my skirts, because I am so tiny and I was told that produces a better look for me. Well I agree!!
The jacket is a whole story in itself! I love how it turned out with the exception of the sleeves. I forgot to decrease the cap ease and didn’t think about it until I had to force the sleeves in, which I had to gather tremendously and I don’t like! so i will be taking the sleeves out to remove the excess before putting them back in. I have plenty of time as I don’t think it will be cool enough anytime soon to actually wear it! although it says pretty cool in the building I work in, I still
don’t want to sweat going to and from my truck! ha ha
This jacket is a basic scoop neck, front zipper, princess seams jacket in PMB4, I believe I lengthened to my liking. nothing fancy!
I will get much better pictures with me wearing my garments as soon as time allows. and i will give a full detailed, Pattern Review style review once i take those pictures, maybe this weekend!
And in an effort to get more organized, so I can work more efficiently, which I do a complete re-organization almost annually!, I have been sorting and folding all of my fabrics, but this time i find a means of storage so I can actually see the fabrics i have, select coordinates, remove and replace then with ease!!
I have seen others store their fabrics this way, but had to think of something I could afford, or was willing to pay for that I could use. I had a bunch of old boxes, so this is what i came up with…..
I am by no means finished but I have gotten a lot accomplished in just the one fabric closet! I have a whole second one to complete as well! but I figured if I do a few a day, at some point I will finish, then I just have to keep it up when I purchase new fabrics!
so far I have done a few knits (top shelf) and a bunch of cottons on the middle shelf! I have been using different size boxes as the knits usually come much wider than the cottons, but boy does this make a huge difference in the amount of space my fabrics take up!!
My husbands first thought was oh, I guess you’ll be buying more fabric to fill in the gaps, uh?
I’m thinking that would be a YES!!!
oops and I almost forgot to mention, my ASG neighborhood meeting this past weekend!
it had been so long since my last meeting!!
This month we had a guest lecture, which was absolutely fabulous!! to say the least. Our guest speaker was Sarah Veblen and she was super with sharing information on linings and facings! with so so many sample garments for us to look at. It was such a fantastic treat, as I am working on skirts and to be able to see one made as lovely as hers! my gosh just breathe taking!!!
And a met a lovely young lady, new to ASG, but she said that she reads my blog!! she called me a celebrity! well fancy that! maybe just to me and Tara! but that’s okay, it was really nice to have met someone in person that knew off me from online! Thanks Tara you made my week!! and if you don’t find a neighborhood group near you, please please come back with us, we would love to have you! I know it’s a bit of a drive but it’s only once a month!!!
and if you sew and don’t belong to ASG, you should check us out!
I want your dresses…hand them over and nobody gets dressed in hideous fabric!!
Those are wonderful…will you share the pattern(s) information. Love the prints too!
Gorgeous dresses. I love the cut of the green one. Did you draft that pattern?
Hi TRINA !!! Thanks so much for the shoutout ! I really enjoyed meeting everyone and Sarah's lecture was on pointe ! I came to your blog and said, "YEAH Trina has updates and photos !" — Take Care — Tara
Cute, cute dresses!
I'll be using the idea of the boxes and fabric. I have so many diaper boxes that I could break down and use. I've got to do something to control all this fabric I've got!
