I joined the ASG (American Sewing Guild) I think at the very end of December. It was one of my new year’s resolutions for my sewing as a business, to join a few associations at a time and take as many classes as I could afford to, this year. Maybe I will learn something new, maybe I will revisit something I already know, but most of all, I will make some sewing friends and get my booty out of the house!
So, once I joined the guild, I could choose from many neighborhood groups so I decided since I know I don’t like to drive much to choose one close to where I live, so that me getting there could not later become an issue. One neighborhood meeting I missed and the other was today!
Let me just tell you all, if you sew and don’t belong to ASG, you should be ashamed of your self. Every person I have ever met, that sews, talks about improving there skills, making items to donate, teaching a daughter or niece how to sew, and just plain old having someone else to talk "sew" with, and this group is all that and more!
I have only been to one meeting so far, but this group of ladies are just fantastic! so many varied skill levels, some many different type of sewist, so much to talk about and so little time!!!
All the plans and events scheduled for upcoming months fall right in line with things I was hoping to achieve this year!
I am spreading the word about this fabulous group because I could just kick myself that I hadn’t found them earlier! I just happened to be searching the Internet for organizations to join, and then heard someone mention it locally and just jumped right in and boy am I glad I did! I gotta get out more!

Happy Sewing,
Trina, I glad you found ASG. I see you are in Maryland. I’m way across the country in Northern CA and my experience is the same as yours. I have been a member over ten years and count my sewing sisters as my friends. We all learn from each other, sharing our sewing successes and challenges. I hope that you can attend an annual conference sometime. You will be so energized by all the talent in one place at one time that you will go home with more ideas than can ever be accomplished in a life time or two!
