okay so i was really beat this morning, thinking i was still a hopper (teenager) or something and could just stay up as late as i wanted to. with no coffee. I was scared to drink some coffee because i really wasn’t sure if i wanted to stay up late!! I know that sounds crazy.
But anyway i started looking around for review for this pattern of a long suit jacket for women that i pulled out of the pattern bin and low and behold i couldn’t find not one review. My goodness, i can’t be the only person to think the pattern was cute!! oh my.
so once i get settle for today, i will scan a picture of the pattern and try again to see if i can find a review. I want to match it with the little black and white mini, for a full suit look.
So today, i’m sluggish, but still trying to finish up what i started this weekend, so it can be back to work as usual tomorrow with my ebay things. I have two boxes to ship out and a pattern to grade up for that and i really need to do appliques for my boys sweats, i just haven’t really come up with anything spectacular yet! maybe by tommorrow it will hit me!
This is the top i decided to do with my skirt. I got the idea from Behind The Seams Blog. It’s Simplicity 6648. I have been sitting on this pattern for some time now and I keep up-to-date with BTS Blog, because i think she makes some of the best garments and i just love her choice of fabrics and I also read the Sewing Divas Blog in which she (sorry i don’t know her personally so i don’t know her name!) is a member of the blog team.
Well, i am so glad she posted her top, because that gave me the idea to do my top and I just love it!!
I went on PatternReview and read a few reviews before going to bed last night and that built up my confidence to just jump right into it and i did and i love it.
It’s a very easy sew with only 5 pieces: 2 front, 2 band, 1 back. you just really can’t get any easier than that!
I had a hard time deciding how i wanted to finish my neckline so i did a bias tape of the same fabric. I use the little metal do hicky that you pull the fabric through and that has been working for me just lovely. I like it much better than the sewing machine foot and unfortunately i have not been unable to find a foot for my serger. but this method has been working out just fine.
For the waistband, i used my gather foot on my regular machine, turned the bobbin tension up to 6 and
the stitch length up to 5 and gathered 5/8" into the seam, so that when i put the two fabrics together to join, and stitch on my serger i used a 1/4" seam allowance, went back and removed the original stitches from the gathering foot after i attached the waistband to the blouse.
Now all i have to do is roll hem the bottom of the skirt and the sleeve edges and i am in business. I think i want to use Red, to bring out the bits of red throughout the print.
Since today is Football Sunday (Go! Ravens!!) i may be able to squeeze in the cutting of my long suit jacket. If i do, more pictures to follow!!
I am so proud of myself for actually getting some grown up clothes accomplished. I have to update my patternreview profile, since i use it so much to gather info. on patterns, sewing tips, etc., a membership is just not enough thanks to all those girls over there!!
so if you haven’t check it out yet, go on over there! if you sew, you will love it!!

oh this is the back view!
